Free Medical Transcription Softwares. Download & Resource Center

By Raj | Aug 17, 2009

For the past few posts we have been trying to find all the available free softwares for medical transcription on the Internet such as free voice file players, free text expanders, AutoCorrect migration utility, online free typing tutors etc., and we made a custom free medical spell checker of our own with the available online free resources of medical words.

Further search for a desktop medical dictionary brought up a few such free medical dictionaries.  One such free medical dictionary is XTerm Medical Dictionary which can be installed on your system.  It has an ‘update mode’ to update the recent medical terms from its parent site.  However, the glossary seems to be rather limited.

Another interesting finding was Free Medical Dictionary Software; however, it needs you to be connected to the internet.  Though it seems to be up-to-date, the ads seem to be annoying, and this dictionary doesn’t permit any wild-card search.

The third one was Medical Dictionary Software.  It seemed to be a spell checker without any definitions rather than truly to be a dictionary.

Meanwhile, one of our readers brought to my notice that somebody has done a similar work gathering links to free medical transcription softwares available on the Internet.  (The site owner remains anonymous as there is no “About” page found on the web site.)  The softwares listed there include various medical dictionaries, English dictionaries, spell checker, drug reference, voice players, text expanders, FTP software, typing tutor etc.

I didn’t try downloading any of the free transcription softwares listed there as I’m already through with my requirements.  So before you try with those free medical transcription reference materials, find out if they have appropriate valid licenses and that they are the current versions as there seems to be a “Disclaimer” at the end of the page.

In short, it seems to be a one-stop spot of free medical transcription resources if everything is appropriately licensed. So find if everything is in order, choose the medical transcription software to suite your need and download them from MT Shine.
(Update: Removed the link as the site is down/getting redirected to Microsoft.com)

The fourth one is a Dictionary of Normal Labs (DNL) by MT3Sixty.com, freeware dictionary of normal laboratory values. It gives the normal lab values on your desktop! Read the instructions and download link from MTIndia’s Facebook page.

Thank you Abishai. The entire credit for bringing this entire list of free medical transcription software to our attention goes to gspal (and that site owner if all the software are genuine). I just blogged bringing to the attention of our blog community, that’s all.
