Search here, search there, search in this, search in that, search in this book, search in that search engine – medical transcriptionists are those unlucky searchers who always keep on searching something that they haven’t lost! Oh Jesus, what all acrobats we do before catching a word? Half of these acrobats could be averted if the dictators have some humanitarian considerations, had they considered medical transcriptionists as human beings!

Apart from hard copy of medical books, The AAMT Book of Style, magazines, dictionary and search engines, I have a couple of latest edition of softwares (electronic copy) on my desktop, viz., Stedman’s Electronic Medical Dictionary, Quick Look Electronic Drug Reference, Random House Webster’s Unabridged Dictionary, Mosby’s Medical Encyclopedia and Vera Pyle’s Current Medical Terminology.

How to bring down the time spent for search by a MT? The graph of the average time spent by MTs searching for words comes down with experience, exposure and willingness to learn and sharpen skills. You grow wiser as you grow older. Keep your mind always open for learning new things, no matter what your age and experience is. Have that “I’m always open to learn new things” mentality or “still a student even at the age of 70″ mentality and you ought to perform better day by day.
