Medical Transcription Blogs And Medical Transcriptionists’ Blogs

Ramon posed me an interesting question “Who is in my feed reader?” or to be precise “Which blogs on medical transcription do I regularly read?”  Instead of answering the comment on that post itself, I thought it would be appropriate for me to share the list here so that everybody benefits from it.  Before I go into the list, do you know “What is an XML feed or RSS, and what is a feed reader?” If you don’t, get to know what is a feed or RSS and why you should know about RSS feed and use it.

Often I scan for new blogs popping up on Google Blog Search for medical transcription or search on Google itself for medical transcription blogs.  I also keep an eye on Blog Top List’s RSS tag for blogs about medical transcription and on WordPress for blogs about medical transcription.  MT Daily’s list of MT Blogs haven’t been updated for a long long time and apparently none of the blogs on MT Daily’s list are updating regularly now, all of them are dead!

The blog list is in the same order as it appears on my feed reader, that is, the order in which a blog interests and influences me.  Apart from this, I have a great list of blogs on my feed reader that give search engine optimization tips, blogs on online money making tips, health blogs and news sites, but that I would share them somewhere down the lane as it would be appropriate now to share the list of blogs on medical transcription on my feed reader, the more close answer to Ramon’s question.  I had the idea of this post back in October 2008 itself, but somehow I couldn’t make it at that time.

Why do I blog about medical transcription and why do I read other medical transcription blogs?  For fetching information like you read newspaper in the morning.  It has networked me with some veterans in the medical transcription industry.  For eg., I had a doubt last week, “How Obama’s outsourcing policies and tax cuts are going to affect medical transcription outsourcing?” “Will the tax cuts be more than what the MTSOs are saving from outsourcing?” I put this question across the table to all those people I am networked with through email, Twitter and instant messenger.  I got the answer from many of them in a matter of minutes that currently the MTSOs are not enjoying any such tax sops and it’s not going to hit outsourcing and  offshore companies.  Knowledge is power.  The more you earn it and the more quickly you earn it, you are going to be benefited out of it.

Before I subscribe to a blog, I look into the “about” page of each blog on who’s behind the blog, the blog author’s experience and relevance of the blog owner in the industry and only if satisfied with the author’s experience in the industry and writing style, I select to subscribe the feed of the blog.

Of course, the first blog feed on my reader is the feed of MT Herald to have an eye whether the feed is getting burnt properly.  So here’s the list of other blogs:

The XY Files in an MT World

I often have to visit the HIM Insider blog community on my browser as I’m unable to get the whole entries there as a single feed to have a bird’s eye view of all the blog entries popping up there.  However, I’m still subscribed to the feed of The XY Files in an MT World authored by medical transcription industry consultant, Jay Vance, CMT, to have the medical transcription business news straight from the lion’s mouth!

The Factoring Blog

This blog, corporate blog of PRN Funding, posts current trends and news within the healthcare and factoring industries which include factoring news, medical services industry news, including updates within the temporary nurse staffing, medical transcription services, medical coding services, and medical supply industry news.

Medical Transcription For You (Link removed as the blog is down)

Blog by an anonymous author.  Despite multiple requests asking her to reveal her name and achievements in her “about” page, she still remains a mystery, but I love her dramatic style of presenting the theme of the story she writes.

MT Mastery Center (Link removed as the blog is down)

Blog of veteran medical transcriptionist Mary Ruff-King, a word processor turned medical transcriptionist who is into this field since late 1980s.  As the name suggests, she has a very rough and tough view against outsourcing.  In this blog, she tries to teach the art of climbing the rope of medical transcription as it is, with no hype or gloss, from her experience of getting out of the trenches!

Blog of the same veteran, phlebotomist turned medical transcriptionist, Jay Vance, whom I mentioned above.  There was a gush of articles in October 2008 on his blog but slowed down in the coming months, don’t know if he just focuses writing on The XY Files in an MT World, nowadays often his blog posts are just leads to his original posts on The XY Files in an MT World.

It’s a constant shuffling process.  May be the dead blogs will find the way out when a cleaning process goes on.  Here’s the list of blogs/blog authors who inspired me but are not updating the contents frequently or lost their charm and are on their way out unless they change their policy.

Thriving And Transcribing

Blog of Diane Saarinen (AKA Diane Fusco), a New York City-based medical transcriptionist who started her medical transcription career back in 1989.  She is the witness of the medical transcription industry changing from one that was once a wildly popular work-at-home profession to one that is now challenged by both overseas outsourcing trends as well as more sophisticated speech recognition software systems.  With the constant evolution of things, she graduated herself to be a virtual assistant and feels that flexibility and willingness to change is the key to success.
