MT Herald Gains PageRank 4

The dust of the recent PageRank fireworks is settling down. Those who gained PageRank are hailing the Google PageRank algorithm while those who lost are cursing and questioning the authenticity of the algorithm. Many new sites advanced from 0 to 4-5 while many existing stalwarts got downgraded by 2-3 points even from 7 or 6, allegedly for selling links, thereby undermining the very basic formula of PageRank. So there is really a heated discussion going around the internet about the future of paid links and PageRank.

Why Google dropped my PageRank?

In the current fireworks, MT Herald silently gained a PageRank of 4 for its home page and a rank less for many of its inner pages. The chart below will give you a rough idea on how many links that are required to obtain a rank.

Number of links to obtain a PageRank, PageRank links explained

One of the easiest things that you can do to increase PageRank and gain Google’s trust is to submit your site to web directories. Most of these directories have very simple standards for submission, and with just a few clicks, you’re done. Submitting to any directory is good, but the very best results would be to submit to directories that offer one-way links. That means that the directory links to you, but you’re not required to link back. Some directories do this for free, while others charge a small free for a permanent one-way link.

People won’t really browse through a web directory looking for sites; hence, the ultimate point of web directories (even Yahoo started as a directory) in this era of Google is not to send traffic to your site but to give your link popularity added wait. When Google does a PageRank update, the more one-way links you’ve got pointing to your site, the higher the chances are that your PageRank will improve! Adding your site to web directories is a great way to give your one-way links some “pargon.” Finding out who offers free one-way links can be a little tricky, but I found a great list of web directories offering free one-way links at Submit Helper. The only disadvantage is that almost all these direct directories list only your home page as a free service but that is more than enough. You can build links to your inner pages by submitting your articles to Blog Carnival or such similar sites. To avoid the neutralizing effect of reciprocal links, some people try linking A to B, B to C and C to A, but I’ve not tried that formula.

Amongst all these happenings, also MT Herald broke down the 1,000,000 mark of Alexa ranking to sway somewhere in the six digits, a good sign of improvement.

Hence I would like to specially thank all those webmasters of those free directories who offered a one-way link and all those carnival hosts who linked to my articles and helped gain good PageRank. Again a special thank to all of my respectful readers who helped me gain good Alexa rank. I couldn’t have achieved these without all your support in this short span of time and request your continued support as in the past.
