Offshore Outsourcing Philippines Medical Transcription Companies

By Raj | Aug 12, 2008

Philippine islands is an archipelago of 7083 islands in the Pacific, southeast of China, now an independent republic, Republic of Philippines, with its capital Manila. Apart from the time difference that the Asian countries do have with the US, Filipinos have an advantage with reference to medical transcription of being an American colony for nearly half a century (1898-1946). Although Asian in orientation and the official language of Filipinos is Pilipino, which is essentially the same as Tagalog, Filipinos are attracted to American TVs and are able to communicate effectively in American English which is an added advantage with reference to medical transcription against the British English that the Indians are familiarized with (See the difference, British v/s American English). Filipinos have an American/western-influenced culture, a peculiarity that clearly distinguishes the country from other offshore destinations. Though over the years India has built a strong brand equity as an attractive destination for software development and customer support services and has become the back office of the world, Philippines is catching up with India to share its pie in the offshore outsourcing wave.

Offshore Outsourcing Philippines Medical Transcription Companies

Hence a directory to catch all those medical transcription service organizations (MTSOs) in Philippines, both MTIAPI (Medical Transcription Industry Association of the Philippines, Inc.) and non-MTIAPI members, at one stop will be useful for those medical transcription job seekers in Philippines and those outsourcing destination seekers in the US, and this post is aimed in that direction, offshore outsourcing – Philippines destination, with hyperlinks to the home pages of those institutions with every possible contact details.

I have dropped those organizations from this list which do not have a web presence due to various obvious reasons of their own or if their sites are still under construction! Here goes the list:

The company Cypherscribe Inc. is not an MTIAPI member.

Other listed companies here checked out to be ok.

Doubt HIPAA compliance since the jobs are subcontracted to the local MTSOs.

    @Med Trans Girl:
The list includes both MTIAPI and non-MTIAPI members. You could have read the foreword thoroughly.

Oh yes, but is it permitted to pass the jobs to other local MTSO companies? Isn’t the confidentiality agreement gone?

    Raj replied:

@Med Trans Girl: Yes it is permitted as long as the subcontractor contractually agrees to the covered entity (primary contractor) by executing a written contract or agreement that the subcontractor will “appropriately safeguard” the information, maintain the secrecy of the PHI (protected health information), and abide to HIPAA. The risk of monitoring the subcontractor for compliance and any consequences arising because of the non-compliance of the subcontractor rests with the covered entity itself. Refer the following links to clarify to your doubts.

1.) Refer HIPAA and Foreign Outsourcing to clear your doubts on foreign outsourcing and outsourcing to subcontractors thereafter.

2.) Refer Sample Business Associate Contract Provisions for a sample contract for protecting the medical privacy of personal health information.

I couldn’t find anymore. If you come across any Philippines medical transcription company not only of Alabang or Laguna area but also of other areas which is not included in this list, please report me so that I can include it in this list.

Thank you for posting this directory of MTSOs in the Philippines. This is really very useful to medical transcription job seekers. I was not aware that there are several MTSOs in Quezon City. I agree with you completely regarding the edge of MT Filipinos because of our good command of American English and the western influence in our culture.

Malaking tulong ito sa industriya. Mabuhay ka kabayan!

    Hi,

I am a Filipino but living here in Texas, USA. I am looking at taking a Medical Transcription training here and find a job in Medical Transcription industry and hoping that I would be able to find a job as a Medical Transcriptionist in the Philippines. My plan is to move back to the Philippines eventually, get a work at home job there in MT industry and still get paid in US Dollars. My big concern was that I won’t be able to find a work at home job there that pays me in Dollars.

How much does Medical Transcriptionist in the Philippines get paid per month?

Please help me and give me some advice. I am looking at enrolling myself sometime in January next year but having second thoughts about this. This is the whole idea why i will be taking the training, in order to get a job here in USA in MT industry and get myself established, move to the Philippines, get a work at home job in the Philippines as a Transcriptionist, get paid in Dollars and finally to be with my family and don’t have to worry about being away from them. Getting a job there and get paid in Pesos is just not enough to take care and support my family. That is why I left and came over here so I can support my family.

Hope you will get back with me. Any help would be greatly appreciated. More powers to you and hope you have a Happy New Year!

    Sincerely,

    Helen

I don’t think it’s that easy to get paid in Philippines the same amount of US Dollars that you would earn working as a transcriptionist in the US unless you bag orders directly from a US MTSO, clinic, or hospital.

If you get a contract from a MTSO in the Philippines, you will be paid 1/10th of what you will be earning in the US. That is, if you make 3000 Dollars in the US, you will be able to make only 300 or at the maximum 500 USD by procuring a contract from Philippines MTSO.

Either way, you need to have at least three-four years of solid experience to have that confidence of working as a home transcriptionist.

Hope that’s clear. Wish you too a Happy and Prosperous New Year.

    Raj,

Thank you for getting back with me.

Wow that is so disappointing then if in the Philippines I would only be making $300 or $500 a month. That’s only about P14,100 – P23,500. I was hoping at least P50,000 onwards. I guess I will just have to try to get a US MTSO contract.

Anyways, my plan is to have at least 4 years of experience here in USA.

Thanks for your answers. I appreciate it.

    Dear Helen,

What you are trying to do is practically impossible. Once you get into the business, you will find plenty of work as an MT as far as you are in US, directly from US hospitals. But the moment you leave US, it is totally a different scenario. No doubt you will have to work for pittance.

    Bye

    MT

Yes there was an SPi branch in Cebu. I worked there as an Indexer/Data Analyst for 8 months. I quit my job in September 2006. From what I am aware of, there is no SPi in Cebu now. They only now have their Manila branch.

I removed that company from the list.

Thanks Joe. Keep coming the inputs.
