What Is The Advantage Of Outsourcing Work To India/Asian Countries?

By Raj | Jul 14, 2007

The main advantage of outsourcing any back office work like medical transcription to India or any third-world Asian countries is the cost advantage due to the availability of cheap labor there. The time difference between US and India is another factor. The work assigned by a US doctor at evening US time to a healthcare BPO office in India gets done when the doctor is back to his office the very next morning. That is a minimum turnaround time (TAT) of approximately 12 hours.

Advantages of getting work outsourced to India and Asian coutries

Unlike call centers where you have to compulsorily work during the day hours of the country you are serving (may be night time in India), in most cases with healthcare BPOs, you do not have to compulsorily work at night unless the client requires stat/emergency reports, where you have to work along with the client’s office hours.

Secondly, India is having a huge English known/speaking population. That is an incredible advantage when this population is seeking office sitting, computer related, white-collar jobs.

Of course, the ultimate factor is the currency rate difference between Indian Rupee and US Dollar.

What if there is a policy change against outsourcing by the new Barack Obama government as already the US is hit by job losses?

Those are factors that are beyond anybody’s control in India or Asian countries.

Inquirer.net reports that “The decision of incoming US President Barack Obama to spend billions of dollars to build a fully integrated health information technology system for American hospitals and doctors’ offices will generate new business for Philippine business process outsourcing companies” So will be the case for outsourcing to Indian medical transcription companies also then.
