Your Favorite Blog MTH Gets A New Look, Cross Browser Compatible

Last weekend, one of MT Herald’s readers, Dorothy Vance, brought it to my attention that MT Herald is looking distorted when viewed with Microsoft Internet Explorer 6, with the right side bar being displaced downward.  I was not worried (being a bit lazy) about that error with the notion that who is going to compromise his/her computer by still having the outdated version of IE, Internet Explorer 6, in his/her system with the security threats it pose being outdated and since it’s a couple of years since Microsoft has come up with a more stable version, Internet Explorer 7 and now still better, beta version of Internet Explorer 8 being available for download.  Who will leave behind his/her system succumb to multiple crashes just being lazy to update the operating system patches and software updates?  But my guess was wrong when I peeped into the statistics of browser share statistics of MT Herald for the past one year, a whopping 45% of the surfers are still left behind with IE6.

Browser share statistics of surfers

Oh! Then it’s injustice to those readers (or rather annoying experience for those readers) who are interested or got attracted with the contents of this blog and that error needs to be fixed up at the earliest at any cost.  We have sites like Browser Shots and Net Renderer that demonstrate how a site will look like if viewed through different browsers with different operating systems (OS).  So when viewed MTH with all combinations of browsers and operating systems, the shots that came up were bad only for IE 5.5 and 6 as the pictures depict below.

Internet Explorer 5.5 and 6 screenshots of MT Herald

So to keep the surfers with IE 5.5 and IE 6 satisfied, MTH needs HTML codes altered shedding its old template Misty Look, so that it becomes cross browser compatible.  As well, those ugly looking boxes offering subscriptions below each post also needed some alteration that after the patch up we have a more adorable MT Herald this Christmas.  The result, the beautiful looking MT Herald that you see now.

Message to those surfers who’re still left behind with old versions of browsers (Internet Explorer) and softwares:

By running an old version of a browser or operating system, you’re compromising your system to viruses, multiple crashes, hacking attempts by gaining passwords of even your online bank accounts and all sorts of nasty things while you’re surfing the internet.  For example, Internet Explorer 6 for Windows has 119 bugs already known.  So as I said in computer maintenance checklist, always safeguard yourself from internet frauds by regularly updating the update patches that your operating systems vendor issues and switch to much better browsers like Firefox or Opera or much more stable versions of IE, Internet Explorer 8 or Internet Explorer 7.  (I myself use three browsers on my system now, Firefox 3, Google Chrome, and Internet Explorer 7.)

If any of this blog’s readers are into blogging, make sure that your site is compatible with all browser and operating system combinations and that it’s not annoying for any particular browser-operating system combination.  Dorothy, a big thanks to you for bringing the error to my attention.

It reminds me of this image I found about web design work.

Kinda funny. (It does have some bad words just as a warning)

Great article here. I absolutely support what you have to say. If people would upgrade to IE7 then we web designers would have a much easier time on our hands. Also, if everyone just started using Firefox instead that would be heaven.
